Amos Don
My name is Amos Don, born and raised in Boston, MA. to parents that are both African slaves were brought and later became the first Black free Republic, today we call Haiti. I've been incarcerated now for 13 years, and I've reconnected to the passion of reading and writing when I once was in elementary school. This reconnection hails from self‐education and massive reading of my Haitian history aligned with American history, particularly the Black experience while I've been incarcerated. Despite the walls keeping me physically captive, I discovered a passion for poetry, and realized the liberation my words still possess. I look forward to healing youths, and redirecting the ones potentially on the crossroads of landing in the prison system, and hope the words of my poetry can become enlightenment to single parents raising children, by allowing me to become a third eye in the sense of an urban big brother to troubled youths which may truly serve as a purpose towards justice in our marginalized communities. As I continue to hope for my physical freedom beyond the scope of my wrongful conviction, I'm living free mentally through poetry, and thus have become a published author. I also practice the gift of performing spoken word poetry. I am working on fictional novels I plan to publish in the coming future. This work of art in my life structures me with a passion to stop one youth from experiencing the prison system or causing generational anger towards their own hue from violence, so a better future can lay peacefully, for that one seed will be a root to blossom more peace. Amos' has published two books of poetry. My Blue Days Sound Like Blue Jays," is available for purchase here. "My Blue Days Sound Like Blue Jays" is about culture, love and despair; about self consciousness, sarcasm, political, spiritual and intellectual growth. It consists of epic and short poems through which the author reveals his life struggles while living in Boston as a son to Haitian immigrants, dealing with Black America trauma in the United States and being subjected to Mass Incarceration Policies where he'd endured great suffering and loss. In the process the author was able to transform his failures, mistakes, and misfortunes into some achievements...these words of inspirations. "Trumpet Beak" touches on faith, perseverance, and finding hope through the adversities of life. This is all expressed in the form of poetic lamentation to encourage the ones in times of hardships and struggles that need a light of hope and a reason to thank God for. In light of this purpose, your purchase will be a helping hand with 100% of all the proceeds being donated to the IFSI-USA & TrueAllianceCenter, Inc. Your donation will be feeding and clothing the Haitian migrant youths in an effort to provide healthcare and basic food assistance for them. You can purchase Trumpet Beak here. |
