Ismael "Q" Garcia-Vega
Ismael "Q" Garcia-Vega is an artist (poet, songwriter, and performer) and former student of Boston University's Empowering Song course. Born into an impoverished minority from the South Bronx of New York City before moving throughout the Caribbean, Florida, and Massachusetts, he has struggled to overcome the language barrier, as well as the trauma of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse that led him towards a life of crime. While incarcerated he discovered the healing power of his own artistic voice. With a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Boston University, Q continues to explore and share his experience, while remembering his journey from a state of indifference and borderline psychopathic to vulnerability.
