Tick Tock
by Jessica Tovey and Jessica This soundscape was created after a phone call our Collaborative Arts Incubator Class had with Steven D. Correia. This was the first time I had ever been on a phone call with someone incarcerated. Incarcerated people are only given twenty minutes to have their phone call, and before the last minute of the call, an automated voice comes on announcing that the call is about to end. It then abruptly cuts off. It is dehumanizing, and represents one of the many ways in which the incarceration system silences peoples voices. |

Solitary
by Edward "Ted" Messerschmidt "Solitary" is inspired by the many incarcerated artists who experience injustice, yet continue to create powerful works of life-affirming art. Many continue to create their art even during prolonged periods of solitary confinement, which is a form of torture according to the United Nations Mandela Rules. |
Phone Call
By Evelyn Li and Jimmy Rotondo This audio poem is inspired by a phone call with Steven Correia whose words were beautiful spoken but cut off too soon. |
